How to win the Abortion debate.

This post could actually be titled: How to win any debate.

The common problem among debaters that passionate about their cause is that they fail to see the other side or argue to the side's logic.

I will use this an example; A Christian trying to convert an Atheist.

A Christian will usually start with something along the lines of "If you don't believe in God, you will be damned to hell for all eternity."

This is a terrible argument to make to an Atheist. The Atheist doesn't believe in God, thus, by default, will not believe in Hell. You must appeal to his sense of logic and try to convince him why its possible God exists. If you can do this then door opens up to other possibilities and viewpoints.

Which brings us back to Abortion.

The core of the Abortion debate is this; Pro-lifers believe that life begins right at conception and Pro-choicers believe its a blob at that stage.

This is such an easy argument for Pro-lifers to win yet they fail miserably and constantly because they do not relate to how the Pro-choice views this argument.

So lets take the Pro-life stance and strip away all the arguments that the Pro-choicers could care less about.

-God and the 10 commandments. Sure, they may be important to you, but hitting a Pro-choicer over the head with it will get you nowhere.

-Abortion is murder. Pro-lifers can argue this till they are blue in the face and in the end the best outcome will be to agree to disagree.

Here are the arguments that will give the Pro-lifer an upper hand against any Pro-choice opponent.

1. When the egg is fertilized and starts building into the beginnings of human growth, it has 46 chromosomes. This is so very important because right from the start the zygote is designed to grow into only a human. It cannot reshape or change and turn into a goat or another animal. Right from the start its human and will grow into a fully developed human. This makes the argument that its nothing more than a blob totally moot. That blob is already human in its mere nature right at conception.

2. The same Pro-choicers that adhere to science cannot deny the fact that if we found a fossilized zygote on Mars, the ENTIRE science community would be hailing it as finding life on Mars, or evidence of former life on Mars. This standard has to then apply to other forms of life, including human. You can't have it both ways.

These two points tend to blow holes through Pro-choice logic about conception and the definition of life. Science has proven that life is there right at conception because of the human building blocks that are present from the start and if other life at this development stage can be called life, then it HAS to apply to humans as well.

So next time you are in a debate, use your opponents logic and reasoning against him. Preaching your values will get you nowhere with someone who a different set of beliefs.
